I got a 1981 Chevy Monte Carlo, automatic, and whnt to put either a 5-speed or 4-speed tranny w/ over-drive. My question is, which would work best to put with a 305 original motor?

With the 305"s Limited Power, I would Look at the Gear Ratios in the Trannys You are Planning on Running. The Lower the Ratios, especially 1st, and 2nd, will get It rolling Easier and Quicker.
Also check what Ratio is in the Rearend. The 305"s were built for Gas Mileage, so Lower Gears, Higher Numericaly, will help out with Performance also. |

a T5 from a camaro or firebird will work with the 305 there will be some fabricating of the crossmember and clutch pedal get the whole unit including the swing pedal, hydro unit, bellhouse and clutch. the starter will have to be for the smaller flywheel
