What to DO first

I just bought a 78 camaro z28 its in good condition and i want to build the engine up a little. Nothing mager but like maybe different carb, manifold, headers, cam and so on. It is a 350 and i was wondering if any one could give me some combinations. I know how to do most of the work but i'm more familiar with oldsmobiles.

the list in order of what to do when of any engine

Tune Up
Exhaust
Induction
Fuel Delivery
Headers
Ignition
Traction
Camshaft
Heads
Drivetrain

not a chev guy so i can't give you an exact combo, but i know an edelbrock rpm or rpm air gap, a 650, 670, or 750 cfm holley carb, and some tube headers should wake the thing up decently

If you plan on keeping the factory heads on it, and the bottom end factory stock, then I would add a Edelbrock performer plus kit which is the intake and camshaft, the cam is 204/214 duration and will give a good low end torque boost which a heavy camaro needs, also add a double roller timing chain while your in there, retain the factory Quadrajet carb. Next I would add a pertronix flame thrower coil and module, and a set of spiral core spark plug wires routed correctly. then add a set of headers and free up the exhaust some with a good muffler, top it off with a K&N airfilter, these small mods won`t break the bank and will make your camaro not only have more power but better mileage.

If it's the original engine with the L82 cam (3896962) & the original single exhaust, the exhaust restriction is choking it badly. If the smog Nazis will let you, put dual exhaust on it first.

Thanks for the advice, but keep it coming. Right now it has dual flow master exhaust but it is only dual from behind the cat. is it worth it to make it a true dual no y pipe.

do you have good volume out of the tail pipes? could be that the cat is plugging off. i'm with double vision on this one, those edelbrock kits are tested and true and inexpensive

Thanks everyone, I have some interior work to do first but then i think i will do the edelbrock performer kit.
