What do I have on my hands? 429 4v motor
I got a 429 4v motor out of a bus. How do I get info. from motor to find out what I have and what it will take to put into a 1979 f-150 4X4 with (blown up) 400M, automatic trans.in it now? Want to keep motor stock. Has 4 barrel carb also. Just to hunt out of.

since most of ford big blocks are considered to be tall decks the height wouldn't be an issue, also motor mounts will be the same, since its a automatic your trans is not a issue, all shouldn't be a problem.
answer to question: you can either take to intake off and in the valley will have engine size and often a letter such as "O" or "A" just as example will give you an idea what block you have, also on the heads will have a code such as DOVE or DO2E and also count the bolts on valve covers, 385 series engines are different from all others |

From what I recall, in 1979 the 460 engine (same as 429) was a factory option in the 3/4 ton Fords. It should be a fairly simple swap.
