Hey all! Haven't been here in forever, seems like I have to time with fulltime school and work. Anyway, my roomate and I decided we're going to build a hotrod with our spare money (there seems to be alot of it) and flaunt it to all of the fellow UTI students. Hes a ricer whos built 3 under 12 sec hondas, so I was pretty surprised when he told me he wanted to build an american classic into a hotrod. We decided on a 49-51 mercury (led sled) that we're probably going to chop the top and hes going to plan the interior, and I'm planning the drivetrain.
So far, I've decided Im going to go with a late model ford lightning motor (SC 5.4) , and probably slap on a T-56 behind it, with a 9 inch rear. My question is this. What all am I going to need from the donor Lightning besides the wiring harness and computer. Also, all Lightnings come with auto trannies so I'm pretty sure I somehow have to trick the computer into thinking I still have an auto. Any ideas on how to do that?
I found a motor on E-bay. here
Has anybody built a 49-51 merc or know anybody who has? I know absolutely nothing about it, and haven't had time to research on the internet. Will that motor fit? Its humongous. Is it a unibody? or does it have frame rails?
Any help would be good, I really havent started on this project at all except minor planning.
