Ok mister "It takes me 4 hours to change my spark plugs"!!!! Just kidding.

Stroking an engine is to bring it to a climactic state....oops, wrong train of thought!

When you stroke an engine, you are increasing the distance the piston travels from TDC to BDC. In other words you need a crankshaft with an increased stroke.

Take your arm and spin it in a small circle, now take it and spin it in a big circle...a bigger circle = larger stroke.

I hope this helps.

Stroking an engine refers to increasing the swing or "stroke" of the crankshaft. This increases the displacement (size) of the engine and also increases leverage and torque.

The most popular stroker combination these days is to install a 3.75" stroke crank into a 3.48 inch stroke 350 engine. This give you the ever popular "383 stroker" .030 over bore.

Lonestar,
4 hours was a bit of an exaggeration!I was only kidding because it was a pain.It took me about an hour to change out 8 spark plugs. The ramshorn manifolds pissed me off(I need to get a set of good headers). stroking an engine...I just wanted other peoples definitions.some people explain it differently. Thanks guys!!!BM

I do hope you understand the meaning of stroke though. I am not the best teacher.

generally it happens just after you get the motor built. ONe takes his (or her) hand in a gentle motion and caresses the motor gently, in a soft, stroking fashion.
