Cool

Are you talking about visiting or moving to the USA? If you were to move you would have to pass E-check to get plates. No one would bother you if you are just visiting. Then again you could always register the car in a state that dosn't have E-check if you were to move there!!

You have nothing to worry about just coming to visit. Make sure your car has current registration, you could be pulled over for that. The only time you have to worry about smog is if you register your car in ca.

Every state has different laws on yearly checks. Like where I live (Oklahoma) no checks at all. Unless you are pulled over and the cop just happens to check something and see's a problem then your screwed. Steve

A lot of California cars will be purchased and registed out of state soon since they are talking about tripling the car tax and registration fees , already near the highest in the country, to help pay off the 35,000,000,000 budget deficit. Those zeros aren't a joke, they are real. The idiot we have for governor, Gray Davis, ran up that debt in just 4 years and the citizens like it so much that they re-elected him plus a complete Marxist, I mean Democrat slate. Not one Republican government official. We are blessed with a 10% income tax, soon to go up and 7.5% sales tax soon to raise to 8.5%, huge gas tax, huge property tax, plus every other tax known to man and they are still going broke.

Willys speaks the truth. These Davis supporters walk around, hands firmly clasped to their ankles, and they like it. Of course, they are as wimpy as their governor. There are many oregon plates on Ca. cars, look for more in the future. Oregon does not rape their car owners. <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" /> Dan

Nevada and Idaho are good alternatives too. I have relatives in Idaho so that is the way I will be going.

Emmissions are BS!!Some factories get away with polluting the air buy gaining pollutuion credits through scrapage programs.
As far as I know Eco-pinko land has had emmissions since 1966.Most other states it as only illegal for a shop or mechanic to remove emmissions, till the 1990 clean air act.Somewere in around 1996 NY started requireing(to be in complyance with the EPA)that all emmissions equipment that was origanaly equiped be on the car.And NYC need to pass the sniffer.Well what about those people on low income who's emmissions equipment rotted off there 1975 impala in 1979 or those who removed there emmissions befor there was a law preventing the removal by owners.Yea they have a hardship waiver if you spend $450 and still can't pass your waived.Oh great thats around 2 1/2 weeks pay for me.
It all boils down to the govt. doesn't want old cars on the road.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the ay I've understood everything I've read.

For various reasons, this being one of them, you see SC people with NC tags!
