Help! I just got a cherry '78 Nova but it has a 265 straight 6 engine and auto trans. I would like to sit a V8 under the hood but I am not familiar with what fits what. My questions are:
1)What trans is in this rig and how do I tell?
2)What small block V8 came stock with other '78 models?
3)Will a V8 fit right up to the trans w/o adaptors?
4)Is the frame set up so that I just need the proper motor mounts to set up for the V6?
5)What sort of grief can I expect to make the swap?

your nova has a camaro/firebird front subframe this means that anything that fits camaro/firebird will fit the nova this includes aftermarket exhaust systems,the tranny has a chevy bolt pattern and will fit any V8 L6 and the 4,3 V6.For the swap you will need the motor towers (the frame mount)from a camaro ect they can be bought from an auto parts store for around 10bucks each
