AC Cobra

Got to go with the Cobra. Back in the 60's. Scary though. Not much around you and very close to the ground. Also drove a Pantera. Great acceleration. Co-drove a highly tuned 79 Porsche Turbo from Chicago to Oklahoma City. Non stop. Can't remember the time. We averaged about 120 mph using two radar detectors and three lead cars. It was a blast but I wouldn't do it again!

I did'nt even have to think about this question, 1968 Cyclone GT Fastback with the 428CJ & Auto trans in a stright line only, corners were "not optional".

And yes I have driven it, but I never went at top speed, but I do know it doesn't take long to hit 100mph.

85mph in 2nd gear

Well I can top the 95mph in 3rd.
Back in the late 70's I had a '67 Chevelle(my 1st street car) that was a 6cyl.3sp. & after it started burning oil so bad(it went through 2qts in 15mi). I bought a '64 Chevy for $50 installed the 283 to the 3sp all I changed was from a 2brl. to a 4brl.carb & intake & went to a 10"clutch & 2.5" exhaust with Walker Continental mufflers.
One nite being about 1/2 drunk I figured I'd try to blow the 283 up(i couldn't blow the 6cyl up even with no oil on the dipstick & holding the pedal to the floor in 1st gear just before pulling it) but anyways I had it up to 85mph in 2nd gear then hit 3rd & burried the needle. It had L60-15" tires on the back & whatever factory rear in it, it was terrible out of the hole, but from a 20mph rolling race it was hard to beat.
I always figured the gears were to high for racing, but got great gas mileage & I did a lot of running around back then on a tank of gas, I should have it now with the price of gas the way it is.

I'd have to say that it would be my '94 Chevy Impala SS. I've been up to to the PCM rev limit at just over 150 mph on the Interstate. I've only done it once.

My fastest FACTORY (I have seen a few cheaters in here...lol) was a 78 ford Crown Vic ex-Mississippi HP patrol with a 460 interceptor. Never shoulda sold that one. It was a perfect sleeper...ugly, heavy, and fast as hell. I burried the speedo (150mph) several times and it always felt easy. I never modded it..except for maybe running moonshine though it now and then...lol.

On a more modern and upscale side, I recently sold my '01 XJR to a friend (little old lady). She liked the looks and the ride and knew it will go 0-60 in 5.1 sec. She called me a few days later concerned about a whisle noise from the engine when she passes people on the highway. I told her I have heard that noise myself...it is the super charger, and usually isn't audible 'till around 120mph . She said she will pay more attention to her speed now.

Fastest Factory car

Definetly a 70 SS Chevelle 454 450 Horses, with slicks would pull the front end and put a smile on your face! My buddy decimated many Mustangs and Camaros on the street, even beat a stock Hemi Challenger, just raw power..

Fastest I've driven: Ruf Porsche 930 that a friend with more money than sense let me take to Oregon to register. Just over 300kph on I-5 north of Buttonwillow. Wife made me slow it down but it was still pulling at that speed.
Fastest (Most fun) I ever owned: '67 Dodge charger with a "street" hemi.
Fastest I ever sat in: Same friend as above had a 959 Porsche that had finished
in the money at Le mans. I have no idea how fast it may have been, but it looked like it was going 500mph just sitting there!
