1968 impala SS
the fastest factory car i ever drove was my 68 impala SS with a 350hp - 350cid/400 turbo automatic/273 gear rear end. top speed according to OPP radar was 138 mph. i loved that car. i had a 1970 MonteCarlo with a 425hp/350cid which was faster in quarter mile but not in top speed. it topped out a 130mph.

the fastest factory car i ever drove was my 1970 duster 340 4 spd with 410 posi rear end.
it was bone stock and it would smoke the tires with ease. i ran the bag off of it for 2 years and then i spun a bearing and that was the end of that. i parked it in my parents back yard and tried to get the motor fixed but the machine shop said i killed the crank. it spun the bearing at 2 in the morning in the poring rain and i was 40 miles away from home so i drove home and parked it. i thought that car was great but i moved to BC six months later and left it behind and 3 years later my dad retired and wanted me to get it out of his yard so my mom and dad could move to NB so i went back home and i sold the car to some guy who never questioned the price he whipped out his wallet so fast i knew i was giving it away cheep but it had to go. i got $300.00 for it. oh well memory's. got to love them. |

Tossup?
Long ago, I had a 65 Vette with the 340HP pulling a 3:10 rear. I also drove a 60s vintage Pontiac with a full Nascar engine perhaps pulling 425-450HP pulling a 2:72 rear. Both cars had 85 MPH first gears. I drove both full out in 4th and its anybody's guess. Both cars were around a "Buck and a Half" The Vette had a lot less wind resistance to make up the horsepower difference. I recall the telephone poles go by like a pickett fence.

Fastest factory Euro-car I ever drove was my buddy's 1973 Ferrari Daytona coupe. It scares the bejeezus out of me.
Fastest factory American car I ever drove was my 1972 Pontiac Lemans in GTO trim - 400cid, manual 4-speed. I know it isn't a monster like a Hemi Cuda, but for a then 17-year old idiot, it was FAST! Wish I still had it. Antny |

My 2003 Mustang Cobra, factory supercharged, mid 12 quarters on factory tires and topped at 160 befor I let off, still had some left in it.
Sadly, it now sits in a corner of my yard with a layer of dirt over it while my Merc hoggs the garage space, I drive it sometimes when my wife yells at me, and I feel like less of a man |

Foreign would be a customers' car 86 944 turbo 180 on speedo, took it to 130 because he said it was cutting out at 120-125 never could get it to cut out and I backed out after 130.
Domestic was a 69 vette 427, 4spd baddest sob ive ever been in. Speedo was buried at 120 so I don't know and don't ever want to know what we were actually doing. LOL now |
