What grade of steel for...

Hi,

I want to know what grade of steel I need to use to reinforce my truck frame.
I plan on welding together round steel tubing to stiffen the frame and Im not sure if there are certain alloys to use or to stay away from.

Thanks
tunda

not a good idea to use galvanized cause the fums from the welding are not for human consumption. Other then that any cold rolled thin wall would be ok. Remember the reinforcement will come from the structure and is not necessary to use large gage steel tube for strength.

my local steel supplier said they only have 1-5/8" x 1/8" wall. Do you think 1/8" should be enough?
I want to make sure I do it right the first time.

Thanks for your reply.
