What head?

I see a thread about heads, since it's not a Pontiac, I too have no idea.

I know on SBC the markings are by the valves. When I changed valve cover gaskets I wrote a few numbers down.

One head was #64, the other #65. I thought one was 899991(doesn't match anything I've read) with R23(is that a date code?). R doesn't make sense, however.... I know you need to be careful reading castings since 8s can look like 3s and whatnot.....

I spec'd out the block casting#, it's for a '69 - '79. I haven't looked for the date code yet. I think it's supposed to be by the firewall on the passenger side?

Here's the only pick I took for whatever reason:

Perimeter valvecovers so theyre replacements or older than '86 or so. I would agree with killer on the #. rototors on both int and exh valves. Odd, maybe some one from a machine shop who sees alot of them can comment on that. Never saw an R for date code. If these heads are going to be used with a cam bigger than stock be sure to check for coil bind. The springs will need to go and rotators replace with std retainers. Instsalled height may be wrong on the intake springs if theyre not suppost to have rotators.

According to the black casting#, the block is '69 - '79. I may pull the drivers side valve cover and get numbers/take pix. I think those were tough to read when I changed gaskets.... It was supposed to be a mild build. Doesn't appear to have much of a cam...
