I'd really like to know what that little green thing in the center is, my caprice has one and I don't have clue what it's for.

Its an air laminator. It makes turbulent flow into laminar flow for travelling through the TB. Its not a restriction... at least I've never encountered one that is. Many GM guys insist on taking it out, but it doesn't really add any HP. In fact on some of the GMs with MAF sensors, you have to recalibrate the inputs to get proper A/F ratios because the filament is getting "false" info.
Take it out and see what happens. You can always put it back. |

It would be a restriction if it were small, i imagine, that's why your filter is so tall too. More 'surface' area for your air to deal with kinda sorta make for not so turbulent as smaller for that laminar dillio. That green thing is a tracking device lol
