what kind of paint?

Anyone know how to tell what kind of paint is on a car that has been repainted? I've been told that my car has laquer,but I'm not sure,is there some simple way to find out?

Yeah, douse a rag with lacquer thinner and rub on the car. If it softens and comes off on the rag, its likely lacquer or an uncatalyzed enamel on the car. So if you are not planning on redoing the paint, you may want to try in an inconspicous spot. Lacquer thinner should not effect cured catalyzed finishes.

I'll try that,If it is laquer do I have to remove it all before repainting? I'm thinking about going with a flat black.I've seen some cars that look betterthan others they are flat but smooth they almost shine they dont look like primer,anyone know what I mean and how do they get that look?

Flat Black

Spray it with the flat black paint and use a satin clear coat.

Any suggestion as to what kind of flat black to use?What if I use acrylic enamel,do you clear it? :confused
