What kind of transmission do I have?

I bought a 37 Olds that the owner told me had a late 70 Olds 350. After I started researching the numbers on the engine, it turns out it is a 307. It also has a 83 Olds front clip. I'm assuming that the engine was also out of the 83 olds. So my question is, what was the transmission that came in a 83 Olds? How do I identify it? Is it an overdrive transmission. If it is I will just keep it because I have since bought a 76 350 Olds / 350 turbo to drop in the car. Any help would be appreciated. With gas prices, I would prefer the trans. with an overdrive...

If you go to the hotrodders knowledge base;Transmission-Rearend section you can find all sorts of links to sites giving identification information. Most likely if motor is 307 (olds division) it would be 700r4.
200r4's and 700r4's use a Throttle-Valve ("T.V.")cable that runs from carb linkage to side of trans and controls line pressures/shift points,etc..
On the knowledge base look for references to "pan identification" as that is usually a good means of identification .(shape/# of bolts) PS-MANY GOOD PEOPLE ON HERE W/LOTS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE {much more so than I, at least!) -Jim
