what kinda body paint do you use?

I was curious, hot rodders use what they can to make there car shine, but usually some get it professionally done. What i want to know is if anyone has ever done the spray can thing without someone noticing opinions on what kinda paint? and pictures welcome!!

Lots of people have done the spray can thing as you call it, if it was a success, you would have to ask the people that did it, to see if they liked it or not.

If you are asking if we have done a home paint job?....Yes, quite a few, years ago. A couple with BC/CC, but mostly with mid grade automotive enamels. I even did a couple with Rustoleum, but just for winter beaters or snowplow trucks. I would cover all my tools etc with plastic and use my garage with box fans in the windows blowing out.

I have a decent sized compressor, some decent quality spray guns and almost decent breathing apparatus.......Because of this, I dont do it anymore.

I will say most of the older guys have made the aquaintance of other rodders in their local area who help each other in the various aspects of building a car to include the painting. Spray cans and the industrial materials have been used for something that is not of show quality and just needs some paint.

I think it would be pretty awsome to pull off good looks with spray can paint job. Whats the cons of spray can enamel? Does it not last as long or something?

With acrylic's that makes it very easy to dry or harden, that would make it also very easy to take UV lights to the base coat, hmm very intresting. I dont think its as easy as i described it though? No baking on or clear coat finish? I seen some cheap paint for base coating and a clear coat from summit, anyone ever use this paint? Opinions on that, and experiences.
And again if anyones ever used that rustoleum as there hot rods base coat, spare no dirty details

Far from a dead subject....I was just stressing that there are various thoughts on the subject and that the pros seem to have one idea on the subject...the amateurs seem to have another.....and agreement is never going to happen......much like the rat rod/hot rod debates.......

I don't think Poncho is putting down your inquiry in any way. Rather, if you use the search function at the top of this page, you can find many threads and many opinions directly responding to your question.

Rustolium Satin Black works well with a good prep. Comes out close to the Hot Rod Flatz color. Takes about $60 to do two good coats on an average car. Looks great for 6 months, okay for another 3. At the one year point it starts to show some grey. Hit it once a year and it will look decent.

Great for cars you beat on. I'd rather spend money on go fast parts.
