What is the last year the 700r4 was produced with the tv cable?

The title basically states my question. I would like to know because I am in need of a 700r4 for my caprice and the person that is selling the transmission says that it is a '91 model. I don't know whether this year model tranny was tv cable operated or electric plug in operated (on the right side of the transmission). Thanks for your help!

Most Cars & Trucks changed to the electronic 4L60E & 80E in 93-94, the 93 Corvette, Camaro & TransAm continued to use the 700R4/4L60 w/TV Cable. I think some Caprice's had the 700R4/4L60 in 93 also according to a few sites.

i would suggest a visual verification the TV cable on the trans since you are concerned for the correct application.

1993 is the last year the TV cable was used on the trans in the USA

Another thing to watch for: cable-driven or electronic speedometer.

Several years ago, I helped my son-in-law swap a 700R4 from a 1991(?) C1500 into his 1988 C1500, and had to remove the tailhousing to swap out the cable drive gear, etc.

IIRC, it would be a lot more work to swap it the other way, as there was a snap-ring groove cut into the tailshaft.

I have a 93 K1500 with the 4l60E, I am pretty sure this is the first year they started using them.

the 1991 van will have an electronic speed-O .... check out put shaft for 2 small holes.

Holes are usually cover mostly by the reluctor wheel ( disc with 40 notches in it)

Plastric speed-O gear will slip on with clip installed in front hole on out put shaft.

Thanks, Crosley ... I was hoping you would jump in on this one.
I know I took a picture of the OP shaft and speedo gear, and thought I had even posted it here on HR.com ... but I can't find it.
