You can buy all the best tools and materials and STILL not be able to paint! Besides, what one person thinks is the best, someone else thinks is crap. You need to work on you first. Practice, go get some paint and clear and paint something. QUIT focussing all your attention on what OTHER people think are the best.

the "best of the best" is subjective. Like I said some people swear by HOK, some SPI, some RM, ect... It depends on what you are doing with it. That is why there are so many clears. What one clear works great for, another one sucks at and vice-versa. Some are air dry, some are booth clears. There is not ONE ultimate clear, or all companies would only make 1. ( and chronos, even SPI. Even they have more than one clear.

Stick with a good company, like all the majors, and you'll have great luck. You don't see show cars or any of the major car builders/hot rod shops paint with Kirker, Transtar, Nason, Omni, shopline, 5 star, ect.... So that eliminates tons.

You can buy that most expensive clear on the market. You can have it special formulated, blended and mixed, and it won't do you any good if you don't know how to paint.
The statement that you are going to sand it between every coat tells me that you don't have much experience with painting. ( you can lay down enough clear in one coat to sand it, if you try you will have solvent pop!) The statement that you would rather learn from other's mistakes, tells me you don't have much experience with painting. (Every painter has learned by his own mistakes, not mistakes of others) The statement that you want to know which is the best for air drying, tells me that you don't have much experience with painting.
