Any of the 'name' brands works well for BC - but high levels of metallic - not a good type for a novice to start with unless you like pain - but that's your decision of course .

Clear - many of us here like the SPI Universal clear. It's very forgiving. Lots of posts here on that paint so do a quick search.

Unfortunetly, for a novice a good quality base coat is best, like Chroma base, for instance... its a LOT more expensive but almost fool proof.Cheaper base coats such as Ful-base take a lot of skill to get right,so much so, most painters dont use it...Theres many good quality brands out there but I use Dupont...That SPI clear is AWSOME.....over ANY base...

I have a couple rules of thumb with paint which works for me:

1. Stick with a good name brand

2. Chose a store where they will help you, not a store where they will look past and say "what ever guy".

3. Stick with the same brand so your supplies and chemicals will match. No reason to wonder what to do with your PPG hardener or reducer when mixing Dupont.
