That's a great idea...Kinda like Dupont's Value Shade system...and that is a technology that has been proven over the years to help with getting the most out of a color with respect to coverage.
Me, I'm an anal SOB...and hate painting anything White, when somebody paints a vehicle white I always wonder what are they trying to hide...LOL. I prime most everything in the darkest color of primer available. The reason for that is that a dark primer gives you a better reflection to make sure that the panel is straight.
Just my personal preference and what Old Fool brought up is a great suggestion to optimize coverage of whatever shade of color your painting your vehicle.
