What are poppet vlv.s in a V-6 Chevy?

Got a 97 262 V-6 chevy. The trans is hesitating shifting from 1st to 2nd ...but not all the time. Took it to the shop and they said the "poppet vlv.s" are mis-connected or plugged. I've build a few engines in my time (70's - 80's) but what the h*ll is a poppet vlv. and what do they do?? Theoretically these vlv.s are located in the engine some where. THX! ...Mark

Poppet valve is a term left over from the very early days of cardom. It is the term that was applied to the type valve that is currently in every ( with few exceptions) Auto engine. What that has to do with the trans, I don't know.

Poppet's are the injectors on a CFI, central fuel inj. engine. They look like small dia. hard, vac. lines w/ poppets on the end, which snap into the holes, Don't know what that has to do with your shift problem?

Sounds like Rush Limbaugh's 'disgronificator' problem he had many years ago!

He talks about it often on his show. I have heard the story off and on since he started 10 or 12 years ago. I recall the story is from his younger days in the 80s in Kansas City or Sacramento when he was a gullible youngster. An unscrupulous auto shop convinced him he had a bad disgonificator and it would take $$ to fix it.
