How close are the measurements from the explorer rear end to the original? If I want to use 8 inch wheels, will the original width get me pretty close to where I need the tires to be in the fender. (I'm just looking for them to look normal and not stick out too far or stick in too far).

the 8.8 explorer (drum brake) is about 1.5" wider than stock (I think thats what I remember)
the biggest problem with the explorer rear, is an off-set pinion
super tough and easy to find, and find parts for
but it does have the 5 on 4.5 ford bolt pattern
however you can just make your front end ford also
unless you (or your wife) have your heart set on a specific chevy wheel
I will measure both rears and make sure on the width
