7.5 GM 10 bolt. Probably from a S10. You didn't show pictures of any brackets or mounts, so I can't say for sure.

7.5, the 8.5 has square ears near the bottom, the 8.2 has a different cover.

rollenhard 11-16-2012 11:06 AM

so what your saying killerformula its a 7.5 Chevy S10?

cobalt327 11-16-2012 03:12 PM

Unless I'm mistaken it looks like the original spring perches were removed and what is on there now was welded on.

The stamped in code from the axle tube (BWH) should tell you what the ratio was originally and if it was limited slip or not- but I do not know a source for the codes for the 7.5"/7.625" diffs... so if anyone has these codes, I'd appreciate a link to them.

The easiest way to determine the ratio is going to be pulling the cover and counting teeth or look for the stamped-in numbers on the edge of the ring gear. It will look something like 10 40 (4.10:1), etc.

Yea, that's a S10 7.5 rear end. Those are S10 spring perches. It's an early version because it has the older type housing end with the large bolt at the top and 2 small botls at the bottom. The later S10 rear ends had the 4 bolt housing ends.

Thanks cobalt327 for the input

rollenhard 11-16-2012 03:29 PM

Any idea of year?

cobalt327 11-16-2012 03:49 PM

The code C262- if a date code like it appears to be- would be March 26 of a year ending in 2. '82, '92, etc. I don't know enough of the specifics of S-10 rearends to help more than that. Did you see big gear head's post right before yours, above?

rollenhard 11-16-2012 03:51 PM

sounds good gives me some idea of what it is

big gear head 11-16-2012 04:59 PM

By '92 they had already gone to the 4 bolt backing plates on the brakes. This one is earlier than that.

rollenhard 11-16-2012 05:29 PM

Thats good to no on the 4 bolt backing plates
Thanks big gear head

Not to be nit picky, but a 10 tooth pinion and a 40 tooth ring is not a 4.10:1. It's a 4.0:1. A 10 tooth pinion and a 41 tooth ring = 4.10:1. :pimp:
