Thanks xntrik and others. Good advice.

I just need to find some one here in the UK that sells Duracool.

It seems around here air-con specialists are only interested in retrofitting r134, for $$$$$.

Duracool looks ideal.

If I had r134 retro-fitted I would end up paying more for that than I did for the car!!

Our NEW 134 cars have horrible AC when idling and marginal the first 5 miles of driving. 75% of our days will be above 90* until Fall. We will have 50 days above 95*.

Duracool is legal with 12 or 134 fittings but needs to be labeled.
It is very easy to retrofit to either system. Takes 1/2 hour.

The time would be the same for any retrofit so that is not a factor. The only concern that I have with DIY retrofits is getting all of the old refrigerant out so there is not a nasty blend for someone else to deal with and contaminate their equipment. I have read the directions on some of those kits and they are pretty vague about that part of the retrofit.

In my climate of North Dakota, r134a has been working OK but we usually only see a few weeks of 90+. Has Duracool worked good for your climate?

It is always good to know what others are doing to learn from their experiences.

Rick

Duracool is a compatible base with 134 (see their site) so bleeding a 134 system down to 1 psi or less and then refilling with Duracool is acceptable to both Duracool and 134 recycling systems. Assuming no leaks of course.

I am going to do 2-3 of mine sometime soon. The rod, the driver, and Yukon. We have 60 days of 95-100 still ahead.
