what route to take

Hi Guys -

I purchased some desert doors for my impala last week. One of the doors is an SS door so I need to fill in the trim molding holes.

I know that I could just weld in the holes, but I was considering a different approach and wanted some opinions on the viability of it.

I was thinking about using my enco punch to make a slug of 18 gage (slightly smaller than the hole) to fill the trim hole then tack weld around the perimeter. I would imagine there is a lot less heat going into the surrounding metal using this method versus welding the hole shut.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't use the "slug" method? Corrosion issues? Strength?

Thanks!!
Joe

I cut out little round pieces of metal to fill holes, for me, I have a lot less weld build up.

Go for it.

Welding in a slug would be a great way to fix those holes. Some, me included, might even consider this to be the "right way" to do it.

Great!

Thanks for the responses! For the amount of coin I shelled out for these doors, I wanted to make sure I didn't pooch something up
