What should I ask for my old compressor on craigslist?

My old compressor gave out and I bought a new Ingersoll Rand yesterday. Some of you might have seen this post I made yesterday evening:

New 7.5 hp Compressor. What breaker and wire size??

Anyway, my old compressor must have had the rings give out. It won't build pressure and oil is spitting out the fill hole.
It's a Sanborn Black Max 5HP 2-stage with an 80 gallon tank. It's 18 cfm at 100 psi and 16 cfm at 175 psi.
I replaced the motor exactly 3 years ago with a new A.O. smith true 5 HP. That cost me $350. I replaced the belts at that time as well.

The compressor is 22 years old come February. So the original motor lasted me almost 19 years.

What should I ask for this on Craigslist. I have no idea what it is worth. It seems like with that good motor, I shouldn't just give it away.

Compressor

If you weren't so far away, I'd want to buy it myself. I have a good 2 stage pump, a "so-so" motor and a rusty tank that I can't trust.

However, since freight would cost almost the price of a new compressor, I guess I'm gonna have to find a new tank for mine and replace the motor when this one croaks.

Oh well.....

Just a thought ...

Selling a non-working compressor for $200.00 probably won't even recoup what you paid for that new 5HP motor.

I'd shop around for a deal on a new pump.
The 3-cylinder pump on my 18.5 CFM usually retails for $400.00, but I found it on sale for 1/2 price.

So a $200 investment in a WORKING compressor might make either a saleable unit or one heckuva "backup" compressor for high-demand applications like sandblasting, etc?

Thanks guys.

I know what you are saying about getting it working to maximize what I could get.

But, time is a consideration for me and I would rather just sell it as-is.

So, it sounds like maybe asking $200 and taking $150 might be fair. That would suit me just fine.

I feel like I got a great deal on my new one with the $250 off sale. The performance of my new IR which is 24 cfm at 90 psi for $1,750 is unbeatable.

you might try posting it as pieces (with careful camera work)
tank in one add, electric motor in another add, and compressor (needs rings) in another add
see what kind of responses you get, parts are always worth more than the whole

nice compressor room, sweet! i have mine under my stairs, realy cuts the noise level down.]

a non-working compressor on craigslist? it would have to go in the ''free'' section. i'd pull the motor and either sell it for $150-200 or keep it for future reference. and then put the compressor and tank in the free section. around here we put steel to the curb on trash day, the scrappers come by early and pick up all the steel.

Before doing anything, I would pop the head off....may just be a valve stuck open, bad gasket or something simple

150.00 is very fair but the selling point is the 5hp motor ...sell it as a motor for 150.00 the rest is free and must go with it...

Thanks for the help guys.

Here's a better pic:

I just want to be done quickly so I'm going to stick with just selling at is. I'm just too busy in these next several months to mess with it. So, I would just rather have it out of the way now. I think I will put it on Craigslist this week and ask $200.

Yeah, gas would negate a decent deal on it unless you coming this way anyway. At least most of the trip would be 80 mph speed limit.

I think after another day or two, I'll list on Craigslist in Abilene and possibly Midland/Odessa too.

I hate selling stuff that is only partially functional. It just opens up too many cans of worms
