What should i do? 440 question

I have a debate Um im thinkin about what i should do right now.I have a 74 police intercepter 440 with a few mods but its old and im thinkin aboutt replacing it. I know a guy who will sell me a 68 440 with the 906 heads with out any lifters springs ect i also need the came and timing parts to do it cheaper i was thinkin about puttin a set of 1967 440 heads on it that i have to save time and money but i was wondering what is all interchangeble in the heads themselves between years? and what should i do put to gether the original 906 heads or the 1967 heads how much would i be putting in this for money to im only a kid and dont have alot. Its going in a 1968 charger but im not to interested in building into a race car. I just need help any info is nice

How about rebuild your 440 with some emphasis on TQ. I'm not so sure that the other 440 is going to better anything considering you are not interested in building a 'race car'. Before I'd do the 440, I personally would go for a 400 block with either a 3.75 or 4.150 stroke (451 or 500) for added cubes. You could build and keep the CR low enough for 87-89 octane and make GOBS of TQ for about the same money. JMO

What do you know about the 74 interceptor motor, a friend had a 73 that had forged internals, big valve heads, and decent pistons stock. If you see an "440HP" and I think there was a diamond or something that indicated forged internals, then I would keep the 74 instead of the 68.

Usually the HP heads were a cut using the old Direct-Connection head templates. I have a set here now done that way, a complete 400HP block, out of a '73 'Special Order' MI State Police Cruiser that was the old man's toy. Bore is still std. What I liked about the dash in that one was the A/C Shut-off Switch, "to be used at speeds above 85MPH". This 400 had true flat tops, and, even with a 13' boat strapped to the top would walk all over anything on the freeway above 100MPH about 30+ years ago. I best remember a corvette getting spanked by that barge (with the wind catching boat atop) flying up 75 near Bay City. It (corvette)did OK until about 115, then the MOPOWER simply got it on! I distinctly remember the blond passengers look. D_v23 I believe most 440 cranks 2b forged with some cast 73-75 but would check. For some good tech info on the MOPOWER stuff check out www.440source.com . You'll see why I still have that particular motor.
