For what it's worth...I would suggest just getting a 350. I just went through an old 4-bolt main truck motor 010 casting number. Much better than a 305 and parts are everywhere. I used the block and stock crank and std. bore. The best improvement that I made was the addition of vortec heads from the junk yard. I added balanced rods, crane 272 energizer cam, and silovite flat top pistons. The heads I used are 55cc chambers so my compression is real close to 10-1. Everything else is new except for a used weiand 8004 manifold that I modified to fit the vortec heads and 1 5/8 headers. I dropped it in a 74 Vette with a 700R4 1700 stall and a 3:36 posi. I'm only guessing, but I have to be some where around 350-360 HP this thing really flys on pump gas. Even with all the rebuild and head work I have less invested than if I would have bought a good crate motor and I'm very happy with it. This is pretty much a sleeper type car so I can't wait to crush a mustang.
