What should I pay for Saginaw 3 groove 4 speed?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 3 ring/groove (1st gear = 3.50:1) Saginaw 4 speed in good condition complete with selector, bellhousing, fork, pressureplate, clutch plate and flywheel for about $650-$700 US Dollars, is it worth it? Bear in mind we pay a bit more for things downunder... what would this sell for in the States? Cheers

Hi I brought one from the north island a couple years ago, I think it was $550 NZ (probably around 400 US) without the pressure plate, clutch and fly wheel. I'd say its probably worth that, but if you were prepared to wait you might find one cheaper. It is convenient though, because at least it's not missing anything. What are you putting it into?

I'm guessing they're not worth very much in America?

hey gas guzzler, fellow kiwi!! yeah it looks like they go for about $150-$300US in the States and I have nothing to gauge the market by here as they only come up every now and then. Mind you I think that is just the box. If I buy it would a Super T10 or Muncie bolt straight on to the back of the bellhousing without having to replace the other components? Cheers

There is a few of us on here I'm pretty sure they all fit the same bell housing and use the same (10 spline?) clutch, but it would definately pay to get another opinion from someone on here. People seem to be asking a lot of money for the other 4 gm speeds though considering they're so old. I've been tossing up weather I should put a manual box in mine or rebuild/hot up the TH350 (its quite leaky). I originally brought the saginaw to go in it (now sold) but I think I'd prefer to use a supra 5 speed now.

And from another Kiwi

I had a play with a Saginaw 4 speeds years ago and I found them unable to take hard time very often, best to go with something a bit stronger.

Thanks I think I'll sacrifice a bit of fun for now and stay with my hassle free TH400 until the TKO is in scope!
