I decided to replace the carb on my Camaro. It has a 750 on it now. I took it apart to rebuild it and found that someone had broke some parts. I'm still going to work it to get it right just to learn but I think it needs to be replaced. What should I put back on it 650 or 750 ? It is 400 sbc with 488 lift cam. (supposed to be stroker motor) very high compression 215 psi. turbo 350 trans and 373 gear. What is going to be the best car just to play with on the street? ? Thanks

hi cub, i've got a 400 destoked to a 377 . and i'm running a 670 steet avenger. i think i have it tuned preety good and it runs like crazy.just a thought jeff

For the street I'd stick with a holley 750 vacuum secondary. There's tons of tuning/tricks you can do to those carbs, or you can leave it pretty much alone if it runs good.

With your gearing your 400 will do just fine with a 750 DP. A 750 vac. carb would probably get better mileage, but your RPMs will come up a lot faster with the DP. Which is more important to you?
An 800 DP would even work well too if you don't mind losing a little throttle response. It might make the most overall power.
You say that your engine is supposed to be a stroker motor. You can't stroke a SBC to get 400 cubes. Only 400 or aftermarket blocks will make it to 400 cubes. Read the casting numbers at the back of the block and then look them up online.

lluciano77. thanks for the reply. It is a 400 sbc. I just do not what is in the motor yet,after I get quarter panels put in(body man keeps putting me off)I'm going to pull motor and rebuild front end and dress up motor. At that point I find out what is in the motor. The guy I bought it from said he had over $4000 in motor. He could not tell me what was in the motor. I got the car cheap enough it did not matter.

Cub, its really tough to say without knowing more. You said its a stroker...so we dont know what the actual dispacement is, do you know what kind of RPM you plan to rev it to ? knowing more info about the cam, compression ratio, & what the actual displacement is would help a bunch. without that info, noway to recomend anything. John

I suggest using a Holley 750 double pumper on your 400. I go 1 on my 350 and its great
