Post What size engine is it?

I bought a 89 Camaro. The guy I bought it from had a different V-8 put in it. He is not sure if it is a 350 or 305. How can I tell, since it is not the original engine?

Well, there are two markings on the block that can tell you the displacement without having to take the engine apart. The first is on a pad on the front right side of the engine. It is on the block deck that the cylinder head mates to. It should be sticking out past the front of the cylinder head. You will probably have to take the alternator off to see it. The other is on the rear left of the block by the bellhousing mating surface. If you can post either of those numbers we can tell you. I believe in some of the later blocks they actually cast 5.7L or 5.0L on that rear surface by the bellhousing. Also, if he is "not sure", it is probably a 305. Good Luck!

305's also had a smaller harmonic balancer. I agree with Kevin, check those numbers.
