Post what size exhaust

i have a ford 302 hot rod rambler that i expect to get 300 to 350 horse out of and around 300 to 350 torque. i'm going to do duel exhaust that will run basicly strait back to flowmasters. what size exhaust tubing should i use? I've been debating over 2", 2 1/2" and 3". what do you think i should use?

I would not go lbigger than 2 1/2 . small block motors, be it chevy or ford seem to run better with 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch. That is unless you've got an all out race motor or a blown street motor, then go 3 inch........GlennK

I've got a 302 with around 350+ hp and I've got 2 1/2 inch. 3 would be too big, 2 1/4 might take away a bit of performance if you're looking for 350hp.

I run 3 inch with H pipe on my SBC 400. It may not need that large of exhaust, but it sounds damned good with a set of flowmasters.

I had a exhaust system built for my 318 and I have done all the mods like heads huge cam pistons and headers and I am running about 400 to 450 hp and I need a exhaust system built and I asked the guys building it what size pipe should I use. he explained that you want some kind of backpressure and he told me to run 2 1/2. I was asking about the 3 inch and he told me that unless you are running real close to 1000hp or running a desiel motor that i should not even consider that size. my two cents

I agree with 46_stvblt unless you are running a blower or have 1000 ponies stick with 2.5 inches, thats what I run on my SB 350 with around 300+ horses I get good flow and sound from my flowmaster
