1952 chevy rear end swap?

I've got a 52 chevy coupe, it's got a 54 bel-air 235 and the three speed manual. I'm trying to find information or parts for a rear end upgrade or gear swap to get some decent top speed. Any information or resources would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

Your present rear end is probably a 4.11:1 ratio if it is the original and the three speed manual tranny is the original. The powerglide equipped cars used a higher 3.55:1 rear-end drive ratio and you could swap this into your car. A lot cheaper and easier than going to an overdrive tranny.

What size is my 1952 chevy rear end?

I've got a 52 chevy coupe deluxe, planning on swapping the gears out. It's a 10 bolt pattern, original I beleive. I'ts the three speed manual transmission. Does anyone know what size rear it is so I can track down some parts. Thanks!

yep, get a PG rear end, that will get you a 3.55 ratio. if you convert to open drive at any point, a 2nd gen Camero rear is a bolt in, as well as any Tri 5 Chevy is a good fit.

there a closed drive ( torque tube ) rear end, so if that's what you have, and your car is an original 3spd car, it would be 4.11's, if it had a PG auto in it originally, 3.55's. you can get new ring and pinions, and bearings from places like EGGE but it's going to cost you. buy a PG rear end if you want higher gears, and have 3spd 4.11's

I had visions of this thread being another one of those "What kind of car is your wife?" type of deals.
