Your kickdown must be adjusted wrong....powerglides generally stay in 1st a long time if you have it floored.......

I would still go with the turbo, though.

Most cars with even a stock motor benefit from a small stall converter as well, so I would look into that as long as you're dropping the tranny anyway.

I feel your pain man. Sell the powerglide, somebody will want it.

Hey man. You can't beat those old powerglides for reliability! Those transmissions are super long life, they keep going and going ...and going.... and going......

I have the 2spd in my tempest and it's the definite problem for performance driving. Slow off the line, decent midrange around 30.... makes on ramps fun though, floor it from 10 mph and get 1 shift at about 35/40 mph

maiors2,
My PG console floor shifter did not use a cable. There was a rod attached to the PG. My first swap on my 67 was a TH350. The tranny mount and cross member are re-usable. The drive shaft length was the correct. I got the shifter conversion kit (you can use your current shifter with the TH350) which had the 3speed detent plate. I bought it from: http://www.shiftworks.com since I wanted to keep the original look of the car.

The car felt a little faster after PG (1900-2100 torque converter). Then I installed the 3.73 (used to have 3.08) 10 bolt posi and felt a big difference. At this point the drive shaft needed to be shortened 1 inch.

If your shifter is steering column based, as they say: "your experiece may vary" :-)

If you have questions, don't hesitate to shoot me an email.

Good luck - those Camaros, IMHO, are great looking vehicles and well worth the restoration.
