what stall converter

hi just wondering if i could get some help i have a 73 chev 4x4with a 350 aprox 400hp th400with a np203 4:10 gears, i have been trying some truck pulls out over the summer and i cant get the truck to rev over 3000 on the track but out on the street no prob to hit 6000rpm. i was wondering if i should put a stall converter in to get the rpm up while pulling.any input would be greatly appreated thatnks

Without any details on what if anything has been done to the engine, this is a bit of a guess.

If the engine is stock, you need more HP or more gear or shorter tires, or some combination of these.

If you just add a higher stall torque converter, this may help the initial launch (depending on the power curve of the engine) but will not help the lack of HP/torque that's limiting the engine to 3000 RPM.

This all assumes the engine is tuned correctly and the drivetrain is set up correctly, etc., i.e. no glaring problems w/your set-up.

its basicily a stronger bottom end with a marine cam in it and flowed heads i have the cam card would that help tell me were the power curve of the engine is. i have a holley 600 on it right now we just put a th350 converter in it last night i have a pull friday night so we will see if its any better, my main goal is to get the rpm's higher to get more tire speed and to go faster befor all the weight hits
