what temp to have my electric fans come on?

Ok i have a 180* fail safe thermostat what temp should i have my dual fans come on??

What engine? The older engines were not designed to run at a high temp. The newer engines run at a higher temp as designed. If it's an older engine (computerless), I would have them come on at around 210ish. If it's a newer type, 230ish would be safe. Also, make sure you put the correct thermostatic switch in. I installed a switch in an older SBC 350 but it would not work. Come to find out the switch was made for a computerized system. It does make a difference. Good Luck.

I run a 165 degree thermostat in my engine and have the fan programmed to come on at 180. It must be programmed to come on at a higher temp than the thermostat or it will run all the time. One other thing to consider is the location of your temp sensor and your fan sensor. My fan sensor is located in the bottom of the radiator which causes it to come on at 180 when the car is just sitting around idling but.....If the car is on the interstate the fan will not come on until the temp gauge is sitting on 200 degrees. The fan sensor is reading the coolant temp coming out of the radiator while the temp gauge is reading the coolant temp going into the radiator or leaving the engine. The point is you need to be aware of the big picture when you install your fan sensor. If you can install it in the head or intake manifold it would probably be best. I am used to how mine operates and don't give it much thought.

you want it to turn off about ten degrees hotter than your thermostat setting, turn on is usually 10 degrees higher than that. So for you 200 on and 190 off would be reasonable.

The fans in my 59 come on at 225 and off at 205.
This is completely fine with me.
454HO and a 185 T-stat.
Fans only come on when stuck in traffic for a few minutes.

In my 66 Elky----with an old 307----fans on at 205 and off at 195
180 t-stat
