Turbo 350 is fine, but if you want insurance make sure you upgrade the unit. TH400 isn't required in my opinion.

im bulding a 421SB chevy and i just purchased a fresh 350 tranny that im going to go through just in case and up grade some and run a value body and bigger internals but yeah 350 will be a great set up ecs if racing and its not in a real heavy car the 350 runs a better first gear to launch the car than a 400 i have a 400 in my 56 behind a 350 hp 327 a little over kill but works great the 400 has a little taller first gear but they can be worked either one to do the job great

Now that you are building a street creeper, you need to look at torque converters and maybe the gearvendors OD unit for all that power. The T350 is a good and sound unit, as long as you have the accompanying third member for the job. if your final drive is a tall one, you are now limited to the max rpm of your assembly. I would recommend an OD unit and some good highway gears for this gas crisis we are in.
You do want to enjoy that power and be able to go places don't you?

tranny choosing

in my opinion use a 400 turbo because i had a 350 turbo and ripped the gears in two. you might lose about 20 horsepower but you will have a strong tranny. i also recomend a stage two transpak kit from b@m it will make it shift hard and fast. good luck
