I have a 59 Suburban. I have replaced the rear axle with 2.92 gears. I'm looking for an engine drivetrain combo that will get me good mileage. My burb will be a daily driver with occassional light towing. Engine of choice is a sb350. What tranny should I use? OD? I have a good deal on a 200 4R and TH350.
As much as I try to promote the 200-4R with 2.92 gears and towing in mind go with the TH350. The 200-4R needs a lower rear gear to work at it's best and no pulling boats and horse trailers.
If you can get It built "bullet proof" go 200R4
with all the performance upgrades.
And like was stated need bigger rear gear.
TH-350 is good but (that word again)
If you do lots of highway driving
u might want the O.D. Trans.
But(I used it again)
Towing (heavy) Trailers
Good Trans cooler is a must have item.
Go 383 if you are towing alot
or build your 350 for max. torque
Highway driving will be at least 2/3 of my miles. According to the owner the 200 r4 has just been rebuilt. It's sitting in his garage. I will ask him about upgrades.
