Building a 72 chevelle, for now going with a sbc. Got a motown dart block and a set of 230 dart heads, I'll go with a 421 or 434. Aiming for around 600 to 650 HP. I want to run a 3.73 or 4.10 gear so I'm stuck on the trans right now. Don't want a 700R or 4L80 so I was leaning toward a 200R4. They say they can build them to handle 750 hp without a problem. Has anyone used 1? Extreme transmission in Cinn OH are close to me but I've been advised they won't hold up, but I've seen them in low 9 sec cars. I priced a gearvenders at 2700 or so, and then you'd still have to do a trans. Anyone have any input?

If built correctly they'll hold up, beyond 800TQ is TH400, 4L80E territory.
Lonnie at Extreme Automatics builds great 2004Rs. You'll need a Min Stage 2 Trans, may need to add the Billet Input Shaft, OD Carrier & OD Ring Gear.

you can add the billet pieces and extra clutches and planets to a 200r4 but its still up around 600hp torque load because everything is too light wieght but if your running big hp with your engine I would go with the 4l80 you have od for steep gears and a good torque input for this trans stock many dealers sell a stand alone trans controller cheap

have you considered TCIs 6 speed street fighter? I use a 3.50 final gear with a moderate 434.my trans is a tko 600. with the street fighter you could use a 3.73 or 3.55 and have a very good launch with the 2.97:1 first gear

Y do you need overdrive? Just use a Th400 and 3.73's or 4.10's.
The high performance engine you are trying to build does not like to cruise at a low rpm.

A glide is a big mistake in this car.
