Well I am a chevy man dont play much with fords. My grand paw has a 79 ford pickup truck its got a 5.0 in it that was out of a car the transmission is the one that came in it. its sliping and I need to look into rebuilding or getting one. What transmission is in it? Its 2 wheel drive 1/2 truck.

it would be better to know what year , make the tranny & engine came from to help ID the stuff.

You said that the trans was still original to the 79 F150, right?
I think it would be a c-6, and this page "backs me up" on that:
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/Ve...Index.htm#FORD

Other possibilities (if someone has swapped it in) might be a C4 or an FMX
C6: 1-piece aluminum case
C4: 2-piece aluminum case (bellhousing is removable ... from the inside).
FMX: 2-piece ... bellhousing is usually aluminum, and the trans is cast iron. The trans is bolted to the bellhousing in a similar fashion to a manual transmission ... 4 bolts on the outside of the bellhousing

Have a look at pan shapes here as well:

You are not clear as to whether the trans is a 79 truck trans or the one from the unknown 5.0 car.

Be advised that 302s and 5.0s have different balance factors and require different flexplates.

You should look under the vehicle and determine the trans type by oil pan shape and embossed lettering on it, and look at the balance weight on the flexplate.
