I just bought a 86 ford ranger 1.3l 2wheel drive. can any one tell me what transmission they used? If not how to find out.

for an automatic, A4LD, for a manual, M5R1

Both are very good transmissions with lots of available parts. If you have a question with your ranger that we here can't answer...there used to be a website called 'the ranger station.' I don't know if its active anymore but there used to be lots of good info.
