stitch welding is welding short lines about 1" long, not a continuious bead.
regular weld _______________ stitch weld ------------------- spot weld . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You don't need a special adjuster/setting to do these, at least to my understanding *edit: tack welding is a weak temporary spot weld. |

The welders that I know of that will do an automated stich weld are some very expensive industrial machines for production line work..For us in our home garages the common Lincoln, Miller, Hobart and such work just fine..
To do spot welds just postion your stinger where you want it and then it is a Zaaap then move to the the next spot and Zaaap and so on until you have completed the task..With practice the welds produced will be very close to what was done at the factory in the first place if in fact not superior in weld quality.. Actually if truth be known a lot of companies use this method on their production lines as the welders get very skilled doing this every day.. Sam

welder
I have this on my Henson welder, he sold patten's to solar so i would think they have it on there welders.I don't use them hardly at all.Much easier to learn to trigger weld. just pull trigger for spot or stitch as long as you need.

I agree, stitch welding and spot welding are TECHNIQUES, not features. There are special stitch and spot weld attachments for SMAW (shielded metal arc welding -- commonly called "stick" welders) machines, butthose produce to much heat for welding sheet metal without the attachments. Eastwood sells the stitch welding attachement. No need for such with a MIG or flux core wire welder.

My HTP 160 MiG has those functions. There are a couple of extra dials that can be used to control plug welding and stitch welding.
