what type of grease to use on new distributor points?

my new points (for a chrysler 400) I bought did not come with a little packet of grease. The auto parts guy didn't know what kind to use either. I want to putthe points on now and don't want to wait for an online order.. what would an autozone type store have in stock?

Use Vaseline on the back side of the rubbing block

You can also buy a tube of Dielectric grease at any auto parts store.

Man...why are you using points??? Check out the Pertronixs. use you distributor and it is a direct replacement. Get rid of the points...

So true, but the OP asked about points. In the old days all points sets were replaced at the same time with condensors, The points always came with a little packet of grease, it always looked like vasaline. I always applied it to the dist. cam VERY SPARINGLY so the nylon rubbing block on the points would not wear too fast and change the dwell. On single points (and dual points on Vettes) as the rubbing block on those old skool cars wears the Dwell and timing changes. These were 60s Hi Perf cars. I Learned how to set single and dual points. Now I also run Pertronix in my pantera and 64 vette resto mod. I also run a MSD in those cars.

And nothing wrong with points. They are dependable (with normal dwell adjustment), and can be found anywhere. When that Pertronix module or MSD fails, you're stuck.

points not only are less reliable than modern electronics,they cost you HP,your plugs dont last as long,the engine is harder to start,bigger cams need a bigger spark especially at idle,,,,
I wont bother posting anymore obvious reasons to not use points,,,
