what upgrades to make to 700r4

I am putting a 700r4 behind a 391ft big block ford, it has been bored to .060 over probably about 400-425 hp , and I am rebuilding the transmission myself, what upgrades should I be making during the rebuild.

Search Youtube for "Mad dog transmissions" and you'll see a series of vids describing diff upgrades such as using the Sonnax "Beast" sun shell, dual gauge sprag, 10 vane pump rotor, Raybestos Z Pack clutches, .500 boost valve, bigger 2nd gear band, etc... Also you can go to eatmyshift .com for kits that include the same stuff.

If you are going to drive it on the street only, I'd suggest starting with a 87 or newer core and give it a complete rebuild with this kit; AHP35003RK-S2 and this T74165 TransGo Shift Kit from this web site. Or any other site you care to do business with. These guys seem to have decent prices and ship fast.

Use a good cooling system to keep the trans fluid within operating range and make sure you understand and correctly install and adjust the TV cable. If you don't, your trans will not last long.

Bowtie Overdrives makes bracketry for a lot of applications. They also have a very good explanation of the TV system on the 700R4 trans.

For that heavy of car you might add a "beast" sunshell to list of parts. And a good lockup converter.

Overdrive

Thanks for the info!!! The core that I have is from a 88 Camaro, so I should be in good shape to start, can't wait to get started, everything else is ready to go . By the way Hughes Performance in Phoenix,AZ supplied the adapter plate , flex plate and torque converter for this conversion.
