I would probably put it back together and drive it with the 700r4 with gas prices and the lower first to help get it out of the hole. The stock engine would never tear up the 10 bolt posi IMHO Unless you plan on major engine mods and launching this thing like a drag car i see no need to change rear ends. But i guess it all comes down to what YOU really want to do with the car.

Why would you want to get rid of the 700r4?
Personally, Camero drag cars are too boring to be worthwhile. Id keep the tranny and rearend, put in a fresh (dare I say) SBC, and use it for cruising. |

+1 on keeping the 4spd. IMO there is no reason to dump it for the Th-350. I had both in my 66GMC and favored the 700r4 much more than the 3 speed.

what do you plan on doing with it? If all the computer controls are in place, you can actually make decent power with it, even with a mild engine swap. my 84 T/A was and original 305 w/qjet, and i'm putting a 350 in its place with a computer compatible cam and some more mods. all the tuning really needed for the qjet is done on the secondary/ air valve anyways. if you need any more info, i'm sure people here could help or check out the carb section on www.thirdgen.org

Personaly, I would put the bbc and 'glide in it and make it a street bruiser (i.e. not dd). But that's just me, I'm more into big blocks and big power, and a little shock factor doesn't hurt either.

Well I pulled the engine today, the block was actually a 77 chevelle 305, someone really went through the trouble of hooking up everything!! I actually thought it was the original but oh well. I've decided to build a healthy 350 and use my dual quad tunnel ram that I've been saving. I intend to build a th350 that I have and use the install kit and torque arm from spohn performance. I really want a quick street machine and a bolt in 9" will come when $$'s there. Thanks for your input guys.
