what was your first new car purchase

What was the first new car you purchased, either performance or family platform. If you remember it would be interesting to know the purchase price and how it was equipted.

1st NEW car

79 Chev C-10 Heavy Half Long bed.
305/AT
Bought it Feb 22 1979 ----- I was still 18
$8200 out the door----------yep, seems like a lot, and it was.

Went thru 2 automatics before 10,000 miles
Something weird happened to the engine at just before 12,000 and needed replaced

3 AT failed at just under 50k and promptly went in the trashcan in favor of a 4-spd.

at about 130,000, the 305 was replaced with a 350 and that took me another 200,000 miles.
In '94, a 454 found it's way under the hood and it is still there to this day.

Well over 400,000 on the clock, so my initial investment in the struck does not seem steep to me at all anymore.

But, alas, the truck was parked in early 2007 and I have not moved it since.
Still have it tho, and will get around to driving it again one day.

Might also add------no rattles or squeaks in this truck, and it is still the nicest riding vehicle I have ever been in.

what was your first

Ponch62, thats the smart way to buy a car, in a small town such as Tallapoosa people don't drive very many miiles per year especially back 20 to 30 years ago. The only new performance cars I ever bought were a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT Magnum, and I special ordered a 1993 Z28. The Dodge was around $4,000.00 and the Z28 about $20,000.00. I bought a new Chevy truck every two years for business purposes.

Good to hear from you, Garrell

Ordered a 70 Nova SS396 from a dealer in northern Michigan. COPO thru Chevrolet zone office in Gr Blanc, Mi. October, 1969

396/375, M22 4spd, HD cooling, service pkg 373 rear posi gear. F41 suspension pkg (Power steering, power HD disc brakes, shocks, anti-roll bars). Radio, rubber floor mats..$3623.51

Took delivery at 7:00 am. Jan 2, 1970.. Immediately drove it 135 miles to work.. All I could hear was the solid mount seven blade fan, solid lifters and Muncie whine.. It would literally melt the F 70 14 tires in any gear..

I've never yet bought any new vehicle. I had one bought for me, but it wasn't my choosing. It was a work truck, but wasn't the diesel dually I needed. It was gasoline and single-rear-wheel. It got abused, a lot. I repeatedly overloaded it. The loads couldn't be shrunk just because it wasn't a dually. wa it stressful? I had my first gray hairs at age 30. Literally. I know kids mis-use that word now, but in my case it's the only one that's fact.

Ok guys . Dont laugh!
In 1973 I worked for an International Harvester dealer in Ohio,H.R. Hill co.
I was the afternoon shift foreman and bought a brand new I.H. p/u with a 304v8 n 3 on tree, paid less that 3gs for it,thing rusted to the ground in about 5 years.
That brings back memories,I was 26 at the time n had guys working for me that were 50 n older, had to prove myself real fast, but I did it,worked with some real nice people out there...

first new:

It was an 88' Chevy Beretta off the show room floor. It was silver with black interior 5 on the floor, aftermarket aluminum rims that really set it apart. I don't remember the price around $10k

what was yiur first

I knew there would be some great stories out there and some interesting price ranges. The 396/375 Nova is unbelievably low but is right in line with the 70 Chalenger I bought new and the long wheelbase chevy truck is higher than I would have guessed.

Never bought myself a new car. I did have a new 1970 Yamaha 350, later a new '73 Super Glide. The Yamaha was the better bike.

New car

My first new car was a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. Had a 440 Mag. engine, had nothing on it except radio, steel plain wheels and little hub caps, which I still have. Took them off at the dealer wrapped them in paper took them home.

Traded in a 63 Chevy S/S 409/425 H.P. on it.
