Post What's the best build for a 400?

How to turn this gas hog into a power pig? Some say to bore it .030 over to 406, but, hey, at 400 I already have enough cubes, so besides doing that, what else? Street engine, maybe a daily driver, too. Take your best shot, guys!

My last car had a 406. I think there is only one or 2 4 bolt blocks to use. I was running about 10.5/1 compression, headers, 750 DP Holly, 2.02 valve heads, I can't remember the cam, mid rise intake and a HEI dist. Nothing real special that I rememeber went into the motor. This was in a 69' Chevelle with 3.33 rear gears. It had a Turbo 350 auto. It would smoke a set of 275/60/15's till you let off the gas. The top speed was well over 140 mph( thats all the speedo went to). REAL you at stop lights.Just don't go over .030 on a bore out, the walls are real thin. My friend has this motor now in a 68' Camaro SS and with a different cam and some head work it pulled 445 hp on a engine dyno if I remember right.

Just my 2 cents!!

Tim
