Non Turbo 2.2 Isuzu Diesel...designed and QCed to last a million miles. Doesn't have enough power to hurt itself.

best engine

several mags have awarded the ford4.6 litre, and after visiting a local engine cor co they tell me no market for them as they last forever, taxi's get350 to500,000 miles. those servicing copcars say they are bullet proof. Also the core co claims 350 sbc built after the mid 80s are junk, cracked heads oil leaks at intake re less bolts, plastic front covers. i am not a chev expert and only put this to the site for comments. no attacks just correct with facts .cliff
I HAVE SPELL CHECKED this for the scholars in the grp

Whats the best motor ever made???? Obviously the Ford 427 SOHC... it was so good it was banned from Nascar.

For a production vehicle i'd have to give it to the Aluminum Block 4.6 DOHC Ford. Stock, it will last 300,000 miles or more... but that's not why I name it the best, because I've seen many motors of all kinds last that long.

It's because the 6 bolt main aluminum block can withstand 1500 horsepower. Besides, that's also why you see so many street driven Late model Ford Mustang Cobra's running 9's, 10's, and 11's in the quarter relatively easy these days... and still get 21 to 24 mpg at low boost.

I like Chevy and Chrsyler stuff... but for kicks how about this thing? A 1947 supercharged inverted Hemi V-16. See footnote on picture. They never went into production as the war was ending and the Jets were in the air.

Otherwsie in todays world I'll go for the Hydrogen 7 BMW V-12. Runs on pure hydrogen with a 600 mile range emitting water vapor and a tiny bit of NOX.

The best engine to me would be the Maybach HL - 230 TRM P45.
Designed by Karl Maybach. Used in the German Tiger tank in the second world war.
12 Cylinders, 1457 cubic inches. Water cooled. Gasoline powered.
It`s features were:
Rollerized crank bearings.
Dry sump oiling system.
Four two barrel carbs.
Aluminum Intake manifold.
6.75:1 compression ratio. (Due to low octane crummy gas)
HEMIspherical combustion chambers (Yes you read that right)
Single overhead camshafts with roller tip rockers.
Automatic spark advance and retard Bosch Ignition System.
Two starters - One electric one Inertia.
700 BHP @ 3000 RPM.
1850 Ft. Lbs. of torque @ 2100 RPM.
What makes it so great? It was the late 1930`s.

No question, they generally out lasted the bodies of the cars and trucks they were in. Not bad power for a 6 either. Biggest down fall was the distributor way down low on the front. Did a lot of road call in the rain for wet distributors.
other than that they were bullet proof

An honorable mention on my part has to go to the Nissan 2.4Z motor circa 1987. I had one in a little king cab truck with over 450 thousand miles on it (720K klm) It did not use oil, started and ran strong for me through +40 to -40 Deg C weather, great on gas etc etc etc. Finally blew a head gasket and we retired the truck cause of body rust and chassis wear.

One just like it was in town and was bought back by the Nissan dealership. A courier drove it locally around town for a very long time since new and it had over 1 million klm on it still on the original long block. The dealership used it for promotion, the steering wheel of the truck was worn right through to the metal ring but the motor was still kicking.
