Just wondering how to build a fast engine and keep all of the engine under the hood in my 1980 Z/28.What would be the best way to do it?

First,go out and get the correct mounts. They installed bigblock in camaors from 70 thru 72 and the factory mounts set the engine almost 1" lower in the frame.I dont know if the mounts are still available, but I think they are the same mounts used on 69 camaros with bigblocks as well as the 302 smallblock, and I know those mounts are avalable from reproduction suppliers.I think Year one or Paddock or somebody such as that has them.Even with the low mounts, you have to run a low intake.I think that with a factory L78or LS6 intake you might be ale to package it,but it will be close. You will definatly need a drop base aircleaner and any kind of carb spacer even a nitrous plate is out of the question.Hood clearance on your car is tight, and as a last resort you might have to try and tweak the hood a bit.I have done this swap plenty of times, but I always has some sort of hoodscoop on the car.Good luck.
