Post What's A Car Judge To Do

I went to an 'open' car show yesterday. They had awards for the "top" 75 cars. There were about five guys who entered vehicles made in 2002 or 2003 and of course they all received awards. Good grief what possibly could be wrong with a car that just rolled off the show room floor the day before the show. That meant five guys who had "real" cars who worked and sweated and saved and slaved over their cars went home without an award. I always wondered why some shows will only allow cars made before a certain year, like 1973 or something, now I know. BUT, praise God, the top five cars who also got the biggest trophies were all "older" cars that the owners had worked on and I believe deserved trophies. (By the way, this is NOT sour grapes, as I received an award for my 442.)

Benji;I agree with you,I judge 3-4 shows a mo.,all over the U.S.So I can`t say much about
new cars and trucks in rotrod and custom car shows.I also still show my cars some.

Just so you know there is one pro. judge that agrees with you.

Benji, Man I know what you're sayin, (I think). Most generally, I'm in a class that includes all those killer tri-five Chevrolets and all those asskicken' 50's Ford customs.. It used to bug me a bit but I love it now. I cruised in to probably 20 events last summer. At least five of them had 2000+ car classes and this old man and his wife with thier brand new T-Bird convertible, won every where they went. They packed a trunk load of awards off last year, good for them. Me? Hell... I took three "Best Fifties" awards and won one "Peoples Choice" decision last year. Those awards mean a lot to me, I love competition - the more the merrier. I like the fact that there are so many rightious rods out there these days, and I really enjoy the fact that my rig is sometimes eclipsed by contenders, in my class, far more worthy of honerable mention then mine.

Trophy hunters come and go.. True cruisers benifit from shared ideas, buy lots of raffle tickets and stay to clap for the winners even if it rains.

And also take pictures for Jon to post in the hotrodders shows section.
Although I must admit, sometimes I leave for the rain. <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[drool]" />

Word to the wise - stay as far away from 'judged' car shows as you possibly can. Life is too short to get involved in that political crap.

Dmorris - my dime store AOL digital camera went Teats-up over three months ago. I've been shelling out too much money on carb. parts and general car stuff lately to get a decent one but I'll tell you what.. I just got my state tax check back today and I plan to get a better one soon. Once I figure out how to use the dang thing, you've got a deal.

Willys is right - pro. judged shows, like the Roadster Show, are quite boring for most 'driven' car owners, as participants. They should have a sign to the effect: "Reserved for Trailer Queens" Those are the shows where I go pay my $6 to park outside and drool over the merchandise within.

I could not agree with you more... I park my car at swap meets .. to be viewed.. not shown . I much more enjoy not being judged.. just appreciated!
