What I'm trying to figure out, is how do you translate the power differences between the pre-1971 cars and the post 1971 cars. They changed to net ratings in 1971, but what does that mean, and how are they measured versus how horsepower was previously measured?
I now hear that there is an even newer method that they now use to measure HP and torque...... How is it done, and how is it compared/translated to older methods?
Did cars made in the US after 1974 really have that much less power, or is it partially a difference between net and gross measurements? I know they had less power after 1972-1974, but I dont know how to compare the net vs gross measurements........
I think there should just be one consistent way to measure. Like from the rear wheels only.........
